August's Daily Drawings

I know we're already a couple of weeks into September, but I'm still stoked on August!  So much of what I'm doing now was born out of this time, so I think it will always hold a special place in my heart!

There's some TxSC swap action on the 2nd.  Tron fangirling on the 8th.  Blogcademy ears on the 17th and 18th.  My Daddy's birthday on the 22nd!  And waging a war on the mosquito infantry that made it into the apartment on the 29th.  Like I said...a full month ^_^  I hope yours was just as fun!

August in Review

August was one of the most full months of my life!  No lie.  So many good things came out of this time in my life.  And I think a lot of that was seen here, on the blog, during the month.  Here's some of what went on last month!

Thrifty Thursdays
I found SO MANY awesome shops this month!  Thrifty Chicks Vintage, Antique Marketplace, Hog Wild Vintage, Room Service Vintage and Ermine Vintage.  I'm absolutely blown away by the amazing vintage shops in Austin.  Just can't get enough!

Land of 10,000 Mosquitos
I did an outfit post! What?!  See that sweet blogger pose?  I really did love how this shoot came out, and that I was modeling a DIYed vintage shirt and some cut-off jeans from years ago.  I like seeing folks in clothes that I know they actually wore.

TxSC
The Texas Style Council this year was full of learning and breaking out of my shell.  I recapped the hell out of it after the fact, so if you're an aspiring blogger, feel free to check out my notes!  I can't wait for next year.

Blogcademy
More blogging fun!  Where TxSC was a big conference of bloggers, Blogcademy was an intimate and in-depth look at content and business with personal advice from three of the most successful bloggers out there.  These ladies are the best!

Favorite Daily Drawings

I'll be rounding up the whole month's drawings in the next few days, but I wanted to pull out my three favorites.  8/2 was the day of the TxSC clothing swap and drew my scores.  8/16 was staring Turks the bad kitten.  And 8/29 was a collaboration with Andy (he drew the dying mosquito) because I'd been in an epic battle with multiple mosquitos that had gotten into the apartment.

August, you've been good to me.  Lot's of fun new opportunities, wonderful new friends and closing out the month with my cousin's baby's 1st birthday, surrounded by family and good times.  August 2013 might be one of my favorite months so far!

Andy and I decided that this weekend was 80's Teen Coming of Age Movie weekend.  We just watch Ferris Bueller's Day Off and we've got The Karate Kid (Ralph Macchio and I share a birthday!), The Goonies and The Breakfast Club.  Andy says Commando fits in there, too, but I think he just wants another excuse to watch Commando.

I've killed 3 mosquitos in our house in the last 24 hours.  They might get in...but they're not getting out.  This is war.  Also, my arm itches.  (Dead mosquito by Andy Helms!)

Today was neither here nor there.  I did get some work done on new scarves and went jogging for the first time in...years.  It was a quiet day at home full of crochet and House of Cards.  I hope everyone else had a good hump day, too.

So it rained for about 10 minutes today and when I walked outside my hair exploded.  This is the most humidity I've felt down here since we moved!

See?  I told you this was my uniform.  Today was one of those Monday's where I really hit the ground the running and got a lot of stuff done around the house and worked on some projects.  It's so satisfying to check things off of my to-do list.  I'm hoping to keep this energy for the rest of the week!

We went out for Amy's Ice Cream today and played at the Arboretum, taking outfit photos and climbing all over giant cement cows.  Just a typical weekend for the Helms's ^_^

Daily Drawing: 236 | Miss Jessie's

So, I totally have straight hair, even though that teeny bit of wave I get when I step out of the shower has me convinced that's curly.  I got some Miss Jessie's at Target on the recommendation of my sister-in-law who actually has curly hair (and it's gorgeous!), in the hopes that it would help me hold on to that teeny bit of wave.  It's a line of hair care products just for curly haired ladies and I was convinced it would help me.  It didn't.  But when I use it after blowing drying and straighting, it gives this great shine and smells great!  I love it and use their Curly Meringue every time I style.  Hooray for finding products that work for un-intended purposes!

Have you ever had one of those days where you really dug your outfit?  I had a meeting in the morning and wanted to look a little nicer than my standard summer uniform of cut-offs and a white tee.  It was also a good reason to wear my wonderfully ridiculous new necklace.  If there was ever a day for outfit photos, today would've been it.  It's simple and comfy while still looking dressy...it's like a wonderful trick haha!

Today is my Daddy's birthday!  I wish we could be there to celebrate with him this year.  But we talk almost every day and even if we're just recounting our everyday routine, it's precious time to me.

Today was for making scarves, sending emails and eating S'mores pancakes with my sweet husband on a dinner date.  And pink dresses.  But every day is for pink dresses...really.

I've been watching it all day.  In fact, I'm watching it right now!  I love that Netflix gives us whole seasons at once.  TV show bingeing is the best! 

Daily Drawing: 231 | Austin City Limits

Today, thanks to the ladies at Blogcademy and Ed, one of my classmates for the weekend, Andy and I got to go to Austin City Limits with my Aunt Dee and her awesome husband Doug!  We had no idea who the band was before we went and only found out we were going the day before.  It's an iconic music show that's been on PBS for 39 years.  They tape bands for the show and host concerts that aren't taped, too.  It's an Austin institution.

Today, I've reaped the benefits of spontaneity and open-mindedness.  There's so much going on in this cool town, I think it's so important to be up for anything because you never know who you'll meet or what you'll see!  But that mentality isn't reserved for Austin.  I've found that not being afraid to say, "yes," and diving into the unknown has opened up my world to many new opportunities.  

So like Steve Brule says, "You gotta fly like and eagle, don't be like a turkey."  Has anyone stepped outside their comfort zone or jumped on a crazy opportunity lately?

Today was graduation day at Blogcademy!  I cannot even express to you the inspiration and empowerment I feel right now from this weekend.  I've met some amazingly talented and creative people through Blogcademy.  The best part is, I know we're all going to stay in touch and help each other grow!

I need some decompression time to really sit back and soak in all the information I learned (and to let my heels recover from my super cute shoes...totally worth it!), but a real recap is coming this week!

These ears are going to be a regular accessory now, btw.

Today was so full!  Blogcademy is incredible.  The ladies are amazing teachers, totally candid and I can't believe how much I wrote today!  But I'll have a real recap next week!

Also...Today was National Thrift Store Day!  Andy and I went to Savers really quick at the end of the day to celebrate and I found a cute Banana Republic dress for $10!  The thrifting gods blessed us today.  Except it's dry clean only and that's lame.  But I'm sure Pinterest has some kind of tip for at-home dry cleaning :P

I'm off to bed so I can have an early start in the morning!  I hope everyone's weekend is going well!

Daily Drawing: 228 | Blogcademy Weekend Begins

Tonight I went to dinner with a few of the ladies are attending Blogcademy with me this weekend.  On the way to dinner, I ran into Shauna, Kat and Gala!  Dinner was really fun and I'm excited to dive into class tomorrow.

Also, Turks was mega bad today.  But he was still adorable.

July's Daily Drawings

We're about halfway through August now (omg hooooww?!) so I thought it would be fun to take a look at last month's daily drawings.

It was our first month in our new place after spending a month in temporary housing, so that means I had my whole wardrobe back!  And while I definitely have my Scoot-Around-The-House uniform, July was definitely more diverse and more fun to draw!

Let's see...there was the 4th of July...the worst bug bites ever...a perfect hair day...my 200th drawing (!!!)...National Hot Dog Day...Turks's 4th birthday...so many fun things!  Also, I apparently love to hold kittens when wearing my green maxi dress.  Who knew?

I hope you're still having fun checking these out every day!  I do think there should probably be more kittens in them, though.

Andy got me a BMO Cup!  It makes me so happy and always say "BMO Cup" like "BMO Chop!"
