Thrifty Thursday • Olive

Olive
address : 1223 Rosewood , Austin, TX 78702
hours :  Tuesday - Saturday: 11am - 7pm | Sunday: 12pm - 5pm

Yay!  After a few weeks off, I was so excited to start wandering around town again in search of vintage goodness.  This week, I found Olive.  Lucky for me, the owner Laura was in when I popped by and we got to chat a little bit about her shop.  Olive features a small, curated selection of vintage women's clothing with an emphasis on timelessness.  Laura seeks out basic pieces that will fit any decade.  Things that can be easily incorporated into any wardrobe.  She's also got a great selection of vintage denim, which is really popular right now.  Especially in Austin!

Alongside the vintage is an extensive selection of products by indie designers.  Clothing, accessories, jewelry, perfumes, paper goods...you name it, they've got it.  Olive definitely has something for everyone.

Here's a few more photos of easily one of the most photogenic shops in all of Austin!

Pretty much anything photographed here, at least at the time of writing this post, can be found in their online shop.  I actually picked up these super simple brushed silver triangle earrings when I stopped by.  I love them.  That's always the problem when I visit shops...it's really hard for me to leave without something!   I mean, Olive carries only vintage and indie...so it's pretty much everything I love.  Definitely stop by!

Renegade Austin SXSW

Renegade!!!  Last weekend, I hopped downtown and braved the SXSW crowd to check out the Renegade Craft Fair.  And by "braved the SXSW crowd" I mean just that.  There were people approximately everywhere!  But, despite the tourist slalom, I gota  parking at the venue and getting my guest pass was a breeze.  I went early on Thursday and had a great time wandering around, peeping all the really cool sellers.

Below are a ton of photos and shop links!  You should click them and buy things ^_^
Dowdy Studio
MapleXO
Once Again Sam
MakeATX
Poppy & Fern
I'm always excited to see Rachel's work!  Her embroidery is so distinct and her instagram is one of my most favorite profiles to follow.
AK Woodworking & Design
More from AK!  I've been friends with Amanda and Khien on instagram for a while and it was so nice to finally meet them in real life.  Their work is just ridiculously gorgeous.
See?  I absolutely adore their Sun Screen Mini Lantern.  The detail in each piece is so intricate.
Appendage Accessories
Doc Elliot
Their's was my favorite booth of the whole show.  It was like walking into an old-fashioned drug store.  I loved how the whole experience was an extension of their branding.
Betawife
Fartsy Arts
Urban Anonymous
Nothing but a Pigeon
Taylor is another instagram friend that I finally met!  She's so fun and makes the cutest crocheted taxidermy.  I can crochet a scarf all day long, but my brain refuses to do 3D objects.  Her stuff is just gorgeous and mind-boggling ^_^  I think the jellyfish are my favorites.
Restrung Jewelry
Inedible Jewelry
And, of course, there was an Air-Stream trailer playing music through out the hall.  I mean, it was in Austin after all.
This was one of the best craft shows I've been to in Austin so far.  The last Renegade was just sort of so-so, plenty of nice shops, but the event space was bland and there wasn't a lot of energy.  The SXSW edition was at the same venue, but had tons of energy and sellers pulled out all the stops with their booths.  It was a gorgeous show and I'm so glad I went.  I've got lots of new shops that are about to fill up my Pinterest haha!

Meeting Lil BUB

YOU GUYS!!!  I MET LIL BUB!!!

Lil BUB and her dude were in Austin for SXSW and they stopped by Austin Pets Alive to pose for some photos and raise money for APA and Lil BUB's Big Fund.  So, of course, I dropped everything immediately and ran to the computer, flailing like a crazy person, to reserve my spot to meet the most amazing cat on the planet!

I got up early, hoofed it downtown and there were about 15-20 people in line before I got there.  They limited the visit to 200, so sweet BUB didn't get too tired, and it was totally sold out!  Austin Pets Alive was very organized and moved people along in small groups so there was no confusion or too much going on for BUB.  I get worried about sweet kittens doing events like this, because I know mine would be wiggin out!

I've got lots of blurry iPhone photos I took in a fury during the day, so I'm so glad that Caroline was there taking photos for folks for free!  When it was my turn, I was totally nervous, because I'm a crazy person who gets nervous to meet a cat.  Mike was so nice and it was adorable how much Lil BUB really loved him.  She was such a sweetheart, totally chill and really seemed to be enjoying all the attention.  At one point, her dude picked her up and cradled her and it was almost too much haha!

See that face?  That's PURE JOY!  That's the face of a crazy cat lady's dreams coming true.
So yeah.  I met Lil BUB and it was the best thing ever ever ever.

Be sure to check out Lil BUB's Big FUND for the ASPCA and support her and dude's efforts to raise money for sweet kittens that need a little extra help.  And if you're in the Austin area, take a peek at the darling cats and dogs that Austin Pets Alive has available for adoption now now and how you can help support their efforts outside of adoption, too.

Exploring Austin • Austin Marathon

So, a few weeks ago, my Aunt and Uncle ran in the Austin Marathon!  They rocked out the half-marathon and I went to cheer them on with my cousin.  We got up super early to see them off at the start, but the app we were using to track them was super slow...so we missed them.  Bummer!  But we set up camp at the finish line and had an awesome time cheering for everyone.
Our spot was right in front of the capitol...not a bad view.
"THERE'S BEER AT THE END!"  Everyone had such a great sense of humor and you could tell folks were having an amazing time.  Some definitely looked like they wanted to keel over and nap on the asphalt, and who could blame them?  I can't even imagine running 13 miles.  Also...did you know it was physically possible to run the full marathon in 2.5 hours?  I didn't!
The crowd was energized and supportive of everyone there and I saw way more smiles from the runners than agony.  I mean really?!  How can you not have fun when these dudes are running with you?  I love Austin ^_^

Thrifty Thursday • Ledbelly Vintage

Ledbelly Vintage
address : 411 Brazos St., Austin, TX 78701
hours :  By appt • Call: 512.554.7548 | Email: melinda@ledbellyvintage.com

This week, I've got a shop that's a bit different from the others I've visited in Austin.  Ledbelly Vintage is an online shop and showroom that's housed in an art gallery right in the heart of downtown Austin.  You can purchase directly from their website, or if you're local, schedule a time to come view the pieces you're interested in.

Melinda, the owner of Ledbelly, has always loved vintage and it was her own growing collection that prompted her to start the shop.  Her showroom is filled with a curated collection of dresses, jewelry, purses, scarves and everything wonderful!

The styling and branding throughout the whole space was perfect.  I always love seeing consistent branding in any business and Ledbelly's is gorgeous.  From the tags to the signage, everything has a signature feel.  As soon as you walk in, you feel like you're a part of a vintage experience.

I mean, really?  How perfect is this display?!  I love everything about it!

I had such a wonderful time getting to know Melinda!  She's opened a truly unique vintage shop in Austin.  The business model allows for a totally personal and catered experience that you can't find anywhere else.  Ledbelly is a great place for personal stylists to resource vintage and art directors to find the perfect props for their shoot.  It's also totally accessible for folks like us to purchase Melinda's gorgeous finds online or stop by and bug her in the showroom to thumb through all the goodness.  Give her a call and go take a peek!
