If you're ever in the Crystal City area of Arlington, VA, you should check out the Crystal City Underground.  It's a maze of forgotten stores and long corridors.  It's incredible.  There's long stretches of hallways with comically large photos of flowers.  Below is a normal photo, and an omg totally wacky photo :P

Snow Day!  Growing up in Texas, I never saw much snow (though they're getting more than us lately!).  My first big snow up here, I immediately called both of my Grandmothers to tell them how exciting it was ^_^ Neither are with me now, but I always think of them on the first snow of winter.

Today we went to the baptism and confirmation of some of our dearest friends.  Growing up Baptist (with a good majority of the family actually in the ministry...my father included), it's always interesting to me to visit other denominations and experience different types of services.  I always end up comparing things to how I was brought up.  I've got pretty liberal views on religion now, that I won't go into here.  But still, I'm fascinated by faiths all over the world ^_^

Kitten shirt!  I got this shirt from a local shop that's basically Modcloth in brick and mortar form.  It's pretty much The Best Thing™

Today I went to the eye doctor for the first time ever.  I'd been having headaches almost daily and a friend mentioned it might be my eyeballs.  But the doctor told me I had perfect 20/20 and no need for glasses.  I bit of bummer cuz I'd had my eye on some super cute cat eye glasses.  I guess if my biggest problem of the day was not needing glasses, I'm probably doing ok :P

Two whole weeks!

Today was pretty much back to back meetings at my day job from 9:10am (yes, I had a meeting scheduled at 9:10 smh) to 6:30pm.  Some were great, with people from my team, and others were filled with lots of talk of process and metrics and zzzz.  I mean, I like my job and I'm grateful for it.  But most of the time I'd rather be home crocheting ^_^

Along with my generally exhausting day, I had super flat hair today.  So there's that.

So I slept a lot today ~_~ I'm wearing my standard weekend uniform and watching an episode of Star Trek Voyager staring Sarah Silverman, 1996 and where Tom Paris calls Tuvok a "freakasaurus".  I think I might go back to bed. :P

This morning I hollered at my husband for turning off the alarm, thinking that it was Friday.  It took me about 10 minutes to realize I was out of my mind :/

It's been a long week at my day job and this weekend is going to be full of scarf making!  I just have a couple more to make for co-workers and I'm trying to build my inventory back up.  Can I grow 2 more hands?  Would that be gross?

Anyway...dino shirt!  When I was kid I wanted to be a paleontologist.  I still feel a pang of jealousy when I go by the workstation of the real paleontologists at the Natural History Museum in DC.

Today was unseasonably warm out for January in DC, so I wore one of the scarves I made from vintage sheets.  It's a little lighter and definitely springy.  I think I'll put all of them in my shop soon!

Also, I made my first ever eye doctor appointment today.  Everyone else in my family wears glasses and my eagle eyes have always been a point of pride.  But with consistant headaches and eyeballaches, I think it's time to check it out.

Today was a typical Monday.  Like that stereotypical, ugh Monday, kind of Monday.  I require lots of kitten snugs to make for it.  That and Downton Abbey.  I might have the UK version...I might have already seen the first 3 episodes...and I might have 5 more to watch right now.  Also I might be wiggin out about it.  Ugh!  Gotta go!  I have to watch!

We took some time today to go venturing into Virginia and do a little outlet shopping.  The one we went to had all the typical outlet fair: Eddie Bauer, Bass Shoes, Nike, and Nautica.  Unfortunately there was no Pflatzgraff (sp?) and Big Dog went out of business long ago.  All outlets are made up of the same usual suspects ^_^

Also, a quick note about my outfit.  My shirt was made by good friend from college, Deanna, who incidentally just bought a house and got married!  So happy for her!  The shirt actually says, "Team Pita.  May the odds be ever in your flavor."  It's the best thing ever.  EVER.

More hearts today!  Hearts, bows and kittens.  If everything in my wardrobe had at least one of these things on it somewhere, I'd be happy.

I'm finishing up some scarves for co-workers this week...only about 3 left to go.  After those are done I'm going to move onto some new spring designs.  There's a few patterns I've been dying to try, so I'll be glad to take a little time to experiment.

I finally won my battle against the boot and wore the most perfect boot to work today ^_^ Seychelles are my favorite shoes ever.

Also, I played around a bit more in photoshop with some old brushes and I'm really happy with how today turned out.  Definitely seems a lot more "me" than yesterday.  If you're curious, this is my favorite, and these and these are really great, too!

Happy New Year!

At the Helms household we rang the New Year in being stupidly sick.  I've had a bacterial infection for about a week (gross! tmi!) and it's probably the most ill I've been in a long time.  Luckily it happened the day after Christmas, so our family festivities weren't impacted.  We had a wonderful time with family and I got to do a smidge of entertaining, wear a fancy dress and listen to Christmas records all day.  It was perfect.

But, with Christmas's passing comes the inevitable New Year and all the goals and resolutions that come with that.  I was actually able to cross quiet a few things off my list from 2012, so I'm pretty hopeful about 2013.  One of my big goals was to start and finish a 365 project.

I worked on some daily illustrations of what I wore last year, and I wanted to start fresh and see if I can make it all the way through the year.  So here's to today ^_^

Andy and I have lots more plans for the year and projects to start and finish, so getting this first drawing up on time already gives me a sense of accomplishment ^_^
